Moon Gazing Hare

The image of the hare gazing upwards to the moon is always associated with fertility, immortality, wisdom and courage. The hare was once classed as royal animals and it was forbidden to kill or capture them. Many Celtic goddesses, witches and mythical figure were said to be shape shifters who could be seen as dancing hares in the moon light. These Shape-shifting witches in the form of hares were even said to cause cows to stop producing milk, women to miscarry children and even be responsible for the infant deformity known as the "Hare Lip" in new born babies.
